CONTIGO

The CONTIGO Study is a hybrid implementation-efficacy study. The study has two main objectives. First, to implement a short screening questionnaire about personal and family history of cancer in community clinics. The questionnaire will help identify Latina women with increased risk for hereditary breast and ovarian cancers (HBOC); and second, to test and compare avenues for health communication about genetic counseling, genetic testing, and HBOC with these patients in a culturally-appropriate way using either a telenovela video or a fact sheet.

To achieve this, we partner with and collaborate closely with community clinics and community-based organizations serving the Hispanic/Latinx community. Namely, Arlington Free Clinic, La Casa de la Salud, Nueva Vida, and The Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Prevention; and investigators at Virginia Commonwealth University's Massey Cancer Center.

Our work adds valuable insights into a novel field of translational genomics and health equity as it engages Spanish-speaking, immigrant, Latina women in research, a population that has been (and continues to be) underserved.
